Target Fish: Snapper

Fish Caught:

19 x snapper @ 35cm-60cm
6 x snapper @ 20cm-30cm (released)

Comments: Hit Ricketts Point after work with my cousin and Midas Matt. The water was calm with a slight breeze. High tide was due at 7.30pm. The snapper went off the moment the first rod hit the water .Fishing for the next 1.25 hours was crazy and hectic. Pilchards not wanted, but the calamari couldn't swallow them fast enough. Ran out of calamari so called it a night. Had plenty of fish to take home and share with family and relatives. We still cant get the smiles off our faces (See photo in Gallery section).

Location: Beaumaris Pier Time: 4.30am-9am
Type of Water: Bay Type of Fishing: Boat
Target Fish: Snapper
Bait\Lure\Fly: Squid, silver whiting
Fish Caught:

2 x snapper @ 1.5kg-3.5kg
2 x flathead @ undersize

Comments: Good calm conditions at 4am, headed 7km off Ricketts Point, in 18m of water. Just as first light broke, had a nudge from the smaller fish, as I was bringing this in I got a big hit from the other, it took torpedo rod holders and rods over side of boat. I just caught the rod as it hit the water. Lost the other rod and reel over the side, whilst I still had the first fish on! Recovered both fish and lost rod after! Fishing was all over in 10 minutes. First light seems to be the time they hit, after that I can't get anything.

22 September 2007, Savvas
Location: Beaumaris Pier Time: 5pm-6.30pm
Type of Water: Bay Type of Fishing: Boat
Target Fish: Snapper, flathead
Bait\Lure\Fly: Pilchards, squid, silver whiting
Fish Caught:

1 x pinky @ 28cm

Comments: Had problems with the boat, managed to get it going, started late in the afternoon. Began in 7.5-8m water and was not catching anything, had a whole silver whiting hooked on hoping for a bigger snapper or a shark. Not a bite, moved to 6-6.5m and got the pinky, could not feel a strong bite like you usually get with the snapper, just felt heavy until it came closer to the boat and then bang, I had a fight. Packed up 20 minutes later, didn't see anyone else catching much either with around 30 boats close by. Does anyone know where I could possibly get some slimy mackerel to use as bait? I can't possibly find any here in Melbourne, if anyone knows any places it would be grately appreaciated if you could email me with the address. Good fishing. (See photo in Gallery section.)
